I was attending a CCW class and the students were talking about what gun they planned to carry. A some point a student suggested his CCW would not get dirty so if it worked or not with dirt and mud on it did not matter to him.
I have a different point of view on this subject. I figure we never know what might happen and we do not always get to choose when and where a situation might happen where we are required to use our sidearm.
So in order to prove my choice of a Glock as a CCW pistol, I offered to drop my Glock in the mud we were standing in, and I was confident it would still work no matter what. Of course the Glock worked fine, but it took a while to get back to town for a good cleaning. Here is what it looked like after just a quick cleaning on the mountain after being dropped in wet mud. This was no serious challenge to the Glock (or most any modern CCW pistol) but none of the students was willing to drop their guns to see if they would work too..
This is not disrespect for my sidearm, I have great respect for it. I am confident my Glocks will work when / if I ever need them to because I am willing, and have tested them like this. Can your CCW gun work with some mud on it? Have you ever tested it?
